Celtic/Wonder North is a development project, owned and operated by Northern Star Resources Limited. (Northern Star) and is located in the Northeastern Goldfields of Western Australia, approximately 60 kilometers north of Leonora. Celtic/Wonder North is part of the larger Thunderbox Operations (TBO), approximately 25 kilometers south of the Thunderbox plant. TBO is located within Northern Star’s Yandal Production Center.
TBO is an orogenic lode gold deposit located at the southern end of the Yandal greenstone belt in an area where several major shear zones converge and join with the Perseverance Fault.
The Celtic pit was mined by Pacmin Mining between November 2000 and November 2001. Mining was carried out at the Wonder, Wonder North, and Wonder West deposits between May 2002 and February 2003, following the acquisition of Pacmin Mining by Sons of Gwalia in October 2001.
The Project was acquired by St Barbara Limited in 2005 from the administrators of Sons of Gwalia,
and subsequently sold to Terrain Minerals Limited who completed airborne magnetics and
drilling at the Celtic, Bluebush, and Wonder North deposits from 2006 to 2008.
The Project was sold to SR Mining in 2011. In 2012, Bligh Resources Limited purchased SR Mining. Between 2015 and 2019, Bligh Resources completed numerous drill programs at the Wonder, Wonder North and Bluebush deposits.
In 2019, Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited acquired Bligh Resources Limited. In 2021, Northern Star and Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited merged.
